Olympic Fever

Not everyone (including myself) was lucky enough to get tickets for the London 2012 Olympics. So if I can’t go to the Olympics then I have decided I will bring the Olympics to me!

Kenya Safari

I’m looking into booking a safari holiday to Kenya. Home to some of the world’s most breath-taking landscapes such as the plains of Meru National Park and the legendary Masai Mara, Kenya really does have it all.

But fear not, I won’t be donning any khakis, grabbing a safari hat or hanging a pair of binoculars around my neck anytime soon, I intend to make the most of Africa without breaking a sweat or compromising my wardrobe. Don’t believe me? Well, in that case read on as I reveal my luxury guide to Kenya:

Start boutique

Start as you mean to go on is my motto, so since I plan to spend my time there in luxury, it’s best I start the trip in unadulterated luxury, and nowhere more so than in Nairobi’s first luxury boutique Hotel Palacina. The Palacina is the perfect first-night stop off and must be one of the country's top addresses for well-heeled sophisticates. All of your long-haul woes will be forgotten as you are waited on hand and foot in a homage to colonial life. Amazing.

Get ready to go wild

From Nairobi, head to Rift Valley and stay in the stunning private 5 star cottages decorated with handmade materials at the Loisaba Wilderness Lodge. Situated in the very heartland of the Samburu and Laikipiak Maasai people, Loisaba also offers a rare insight into cultures and traditions as well as being one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth.

Get a local guide

Spend your days exploring the African outback by horseback or go on foot accompanied by a traditional Samburu guide, who will be able to point out everything you might want to know about the surrounding area. With over 50 species of animals including the big five and over 250 species of bird, game drives ensure you see the most of the surrounding wilderness. By nightfall, come back to dine in the heart of the bush under lantern filled trees and for a night to end all fall asleep under a blanket of stars in one of the ‘star’ beds.

Kiwayu says relax

Once you have spent some time in the bush head to Kiwayu Safari Village on the beach. Kiwayu’s only request is that you are there to relax, and relax you will on endless soft white sands and azure sea. Find residence on one of the cushioned hammocks or make use of the incredible untouched beaches screaming to be explored. Visit the spots where green and hawksbill turtles lay their eggs and snorkel out to the huge coral reefs or tear yourself away from the beach and visit the UNESCO world heritage site of Lamu for the day. As the sun sets, head for a sun-downer at the bar before the toughest decision of the day. What to eat. Offering mouth-watering seafood delicacies or Italian dishes each evening you will not be stuck for choice. At the end of the day rest your weary head in the comfort of your own banda.

See, I told you. Safari the Miss H way…
