Driving an Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Cars. Gotta love 'em. Luxury marques or high-spec sports cars, driving a great car can be a sublime experience. So when I needed a hire car, I turned to a quality Italian marque, Alfa Romeo, and their Giulietta for some fun. Here's what happened.

A Wild Time in Kenya

I’m looking into booking a safari holiday to Kenya. Home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes such as the plains of Meru National Park and the legendary Masai Mara, Kenya really does have it all.

Honeymoon Destinations

Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, is a saying that always crops up when I attend a wedding but to be honest since Charlie proposed to Madeline, I’ve watched her go into complete meltdown over her nuptials (any they’ve only just got engaged!).

She called me in tears at work yesterday and between the sniffs and sobs she told me that she was panicking over which colour scheme to pick for the flowers, where to get a cake from and other such wedding dilemmas. She said she was so stressed she hadn’t even had a chance to think about honeymoon destinations.

I told Madeline to calm down and that I too was as clueless about colour schemes but there was one thing I could certainly help her out with - where to honeymoon. So while Madeline is dealing with the minutiae I’ve told her I’ll commandeer the honeymoon plans and come up with some ideas. Here are my suggestions that will hopefully give the lovely couple a holiday to remember:

For the sun-seekers: Cocoa Island

If you’re looking for the ultimate beach holiday with seclusion for your new partner, this pristine location in the Maldives is the perfect place. Wake up to an empty horizon from your over-water bungalow, in the clear Indian Ocean. Activities included yoga, diving, gourmet cuisine, exciting excursions and sitting by the pool bragging to everyone at home that you’re in paradise courtesy of the lagoon side WiFi.

For the restless: Norway

This is the perfect antidote for those who are bored with beach holidays. Okay, the icy winds of the Arctic Circle may not appeal to all but once you’ve mentioned the dog-sledding, the outdoor hot-tubbing in the fjords, the Northern Lights and your own private lodge in Tromso and I’m sure anyone could be persuaded…

For the animal lovers: Tanzania

The Selous Game Reserve has the animals, and colonial luxury one might need from a honeymoon but as soon as you’ve had enough of the wildlife, head to the hidden African paradise, Mnemba Island, Zanzibar’s little known off-shore secret for barefoot luxury and turquoise seas.

For the hipsters: Argentina

Buenos Aires will certainly heat things up on your honeymoon. The capital really is one of the hippest cities in the world. Stay in Palermo Soho and you’re just a tango beat away from the fashionable boutiques and street culture. Add in the sexiest dance clubs and platefuls of haute cuisine and you’ve got yourself one hell of a destination.

For the budget conscious: Spain

Andalusia is a gem of a destination in southern Spain. Stay is the picturesque town of Casares, a classic Spanish village of white washed sugar cube houses which surround the Moorish castle. Eat out in the nearby restaurants where you can enjoy traditional tapas and from there continue your journey down to the port town of Duquesa, a quaint little marina where you can stroll along the waterfront. Stunning.

I've got the destinations, now all I need is to find myself a husband...

I quite fancy Norway - definitely a honeymoon with a difference and a holiday you'll always remember!
